Steve Mifsud hails Neil Robertson after reaching quarterfinals: 2011 World Cup Snooker
Australia’s amateur snooker player, Steve Mifsud was excited after reaching the quarter-final stage of the 2011 World Cup Snooker and hailed his partner and former world snooker champion Neil Robertson,
for the efforts he put to glorify Australia at the Bangkok Convention Centre in Thailand. The Australian team of Neil Robertson and Steve Mifsud qualified for quarters beating UAE on Friday, July 15.
The Australian team had a strong run in the world cup, beating Malta, Thailand and UAE. They only lost to China’s Ding Junhui and Liang Wenbo by 2-3 in their third group match. However, Australia
have qualified for the quarter-finals after beating United Arab Emirates’ Mohammad Shehab and Mohammad Al Joker by the score line of 4-1.
The Aussie amateur, Mifsud hailed his partner's outstanding performance during the tournament and admitted without Robertson, they wouldn’t have been able to go ahead in the competition. He believes
Robertson has done a lot for Australian snooker around the globe and the former world champion is really the legend of snooker in Australia.
While talking to the local media after the match victory, Mifsud said, "What Neil has done for Australian snooker over the last six years has really inspired a lot of people back home. It's been a
good team effort and I had a bad game against China but Neil dug deep to get the two frames. I tried to not expect too much but I was playing ok back home and had confidence in myself."
He added, "When the groups came out I thought 'wow, that's a really tough group'. To play James Wattana in Thailand first was massive and then Malta as well. But I have a fantastic partner and it
gives me a lot of confidence playing with Neil and it's great to represent Australia."
The pair will soon be playing at Bendigo Stadium arena in the very first high ranking event in Australia, the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open. Mifsud is excited about the event and reckons the Australian
tournament will be a great experience. Australian Goldfields Open 2011 kicks off from Monday, July 18 to Sunday, July 24.
