Steve Nash disappoints as Philadelphia 76ers rout Phoenix Suns 103-83: NBA Recap
On the night when Phoenix Suns legend Steve Nash eclipsed Kevin Johnson for the fourth spot of the most game played in the Suns jersey, things didn’t go exactly to plan for the veteran swingman.
Nash ended the game with 4 points on a 2 of 11 shooting, but more importantly gave away 6 turnovers and dished out only one assist. With Nash struggling to make an impact, the desert city franchise never stood a chance against
the Philadelphia 76ers, which had six players in double figures, while Spencer Hawes finished the night with 9 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Andre Iguodala, Jrue Holiday and Thaddeus Young netted 15 points each, Lou Williams had 13 off the bench while Eva Turner and Jodie Meeks ended the night on 12 apiece for the Sixers, who shot 47.7 percent from the floor including
41.1 percent 3’s and 14 of 18 from the charity stripe.
The Sixers were the dominant team right from the word go and finished the first half with a 14-6 spurt, capped by a Iguodala 3, to take a 48-34 lead. However it was the 22-2 burst, for a 70-36 lead, at the start of the second half
that blew away the Suns for good.
Doug Collins, the Sixers coach was impressed with the show his team put early in the second half;
"As an announcer I always said teams don't warm as well after halftime as before the game," Collins said. "I have been adamant about coming out and warming up well and trying to hit them hard the first five minutes (of the second
half.)"
For Suns coach Alvin Gentry, this was not what he had in mind. The Sixers have now gone 0-2, the first time they have done so since the 1996-97 season.
"What can I say? Obviously it was not what we anticipated," He said. "It was a struggle. We just can't afford to (lose) the first two games at home. You lose those two games and it puts you behind the eight ball right away."
Ronnie Price put up a career high with 16 points for the Suns, who got 14 apiece from Grant Hill and Hakim Warrick.
