Steve Nash dishes 17 assists as Phoenix Suns batter Milwaukee Bucks 109-93 - NBA Recap
Coming into Sunday night’s game, the Phoenix Suns had 23 consecutive wins against the Milwaukee Bucks, who entered the US Airways centre on the back of a tough 0-5 road trip.
With Andrew Bogut still unavailable due to undisclosed personal reason and Mike Dunleavy also not on the roster, the Bucks crashed to their sixth consecutive loss and in doing so extended the head to head losing record to 24 games, the highest after the 27 game San Antonio Spurs winning streak against the Golden State Warriors.
"One thing you can account for is that they have had good teams here. I was a part of a few of them," Milwaukee coach Scott Skiles said. "That is the first thing, and to a period of that time the Bucks weren't very good at the same time. That long of a streak, though, you would think that at some point that things would come back in your favor and win one. It just hasn't happened."
Suns were outstanding tonight and dominated the game right from the start. Bucks on the other hand put up a good fight in the first half and managed to stay within a striking distance most of the time. They were only behind by 2 points 43-45 with few minutes remaining in the half; however Suns finished with a 12-4 run to get in the driving seat and never looked back after that.
Phoenix trumped the Bucks in the third frame, courtesy of a brutal 30-13 run in the first 8 minutes to boost their lead to 27 points 87-60. Stunned by the onslaught, the Bucks failed to make any sort of comeback and only managed to lessen the margin of the defeat by scoring quick points in the deciding quarter.
The Suns were accurate from the floor and shot an excellent 55.8 percent. They outrebounded the Bucks 30-23 and outmatched them in the assists 20-13 as well.
All the big players performed for the Suns. Steve Nash was phenomenal and although scored only 10 points but dished out 17 assists in the game, 4 more than the total Bucks dimes. Marcin Gortat had 18 points while Channing Frye added 16 on 6 for 7 from the floor. Grant Hill and Shannon Brown both finished with 14 points while Markieff Morris had 13.
Only four players managed to end with scores in double digits for the Bucks with three of them being the reserve players. Tobias Harris accumulated 15; Shaun Livingston had 12 while Ersan Ilyasova and Jon Leuer both drained 11 apiece.
