With the iconic point guard all set to make a return by Christmas, the expectations of a radical Lakers uplift have increased. Steve Nash however does not like to see thing that way.
The Los Angeles Lakers were projected as the ultimate juggernaut before the season kicked off, however nearly quarter of the way into it, the Hollywood giants portray a picture of sheer disaster. The problems are plenty, starting
with the injuries, a sluggish defence, the new offensive system, poor second unit to the free throws of Dwight Howard and the turnovers of Kobe Bryant. All this has seen Lakers slip to the 12th spot in the Western Conference, and when the team beat
Philadelphia 76ers last night, it was the first time in nearly a month that they managed to win two games in a row.
Desperate situations need desperate measures. For the Lakers though, it has resulted in desperate thinking process. Somehow, they tend to believe that all their problems will be blown away once star point guard Steve Nash returns
from a non displaced fracture in his left leg that has sidelined him since Oct.31.
The one guard, who is one of the best passers the league has ever seen, is slated to return by Christmas, and although he is more than willing to do his best, Nash doesn’t that he will be the saviour;
"I don't really see it that way," Nash said recently. "The team is still forming. We didn't have a training camp under coach and now we're playing 180-degree different style offensively. So we're still in an adjustment period.
I think the team still needs time to find itself with or without me.
"Hopefully I can help, but it's a process we all have to stay the course with and hopefully we'll get better as time goes on."
Nash’s return will definitely stretch the court more the Lakers and can be crucial for the bigs, especially Pau Gasol. However, the fact that Nash is not used to this Lakers’ team should not be forgotten. The guard is one of the
best ever, but even he will need some time to adjust.
As Nash, said the process will take time.
