The iconic point guard talks about the frustration and helplessness he has felt during the long injury layoff, which has so far forced him to miss 22 consecutive games
The Los Angeles Lakers have had a tough ride so far this season. Before tonight’s win against the Washington Wizards, the Hollywood franchise had lost 14 of their 23 games, including last 4 on the trot. The situation has got so
adverse that after their last loss against the New York Knicks, star player Kobe Bryant had wished the Lakers would play the Washington Generals next, rather than the Wizards.
The Lakers problems owe a big part to the injuries. The team has literally played the season without their top two point guards in Steve Nash and Steve Blake, and Pau Gasol has also been on the sidelines for the last six games,
nursing the tendinitis issue in both of his knees.
Nash’s fibula fracture has especially been devastating for the Lakers. The guard himself has been a picture of frustration so far, seeing his new found team lose game after game. Nash is however close to return now and can very
well be the on the court as early as next week. Speaking to the reporter after the Knicks game on Thursday, the two times MVP opened up about the helplessness he has felt during the longest injury layoff of his career, and also how his will to be sustain fitness
in future is preventing him from making an immediate return;
"It's a tough situation to watch the team struggle with myself, Steve Blake and Pau [Gasol] out of the lineup," Nash said. "The guys are hobbled a little bit [without us]. To watch the guys struggle, the right decision is to come
back when you're 100 percent, to prevent further setbacks than to be out for another extended period of time. On the other hand, there's the feeling amongst all of us, we all want to get back out and just help."
The Lakers have been using Chris Duhon and rookie Darius Morris in the absence of Nash and Blake. The results however have been poor and Nash’s return can pretty much put their derailed campaign right on track.
