Steve Nash expected to be out for another week with leg fracture – NBA News
The Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach Mike Brown has revealed that his point guard Steve Nash might be out for another week with a fractured leg, but added that he was not putting any pressure on the veteran guard to return early, and wanted him to fully recover from his injury.
Nash suffered a small fracture to his fibula on Wednesday night when the Lakers played against the Portland Trail Blazers, after he collided with Blazers rookie Damian Lillard. He missed the game against the Los Angeles Clippers, which the Lakers lost.
"You obviously hope he's back as soon as possible. But the one thing you don't want to do, you don't want to compromise his long-term health for him coming back quicker than he should. So, (trainer) Gary Vitti and the staff are on top of it. We'll just wait and play it out from there,” said Brown after team practice on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Lakers have already gotten off to a bad start in the season, losing their opening three games to go 0-3 for the first time in 34 years. They won the game against the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night, giving them some confidence and allowing them to get back to their winning ways. In the absence of Nash, Steve Blake has been playing with the Lakers starting line-up and Darius Morris has been doing backup point guard duties.
"We got capable guys that can step up and fill his spot. Obviously Darius (Morris) is going to get some minutes so it's going to help his growth and (Steve) Blake is going to get a chance to play with the starting group,” said Brown.
Nash was initially expected to play in the game against the Clippers, but the Lakers did not know about his leg fracture at the time. The injury was fully revealed on Saturday after an MRI was conducted on the injured leg, and Nash is now expected to back sometime next week. In his absence, the Lakers were able to handle their business against Detroit, but will need some good support from Blake and the bench in order to continue their winning ways.
