The Los Angeles Lakers point guard had said on Tuesday that his return might coincide with Christmas, but according to recent reports, Nash might return back to the court as early as this Saturday
With the Los Angeles Lakers struggling to live up to their billing so far this season, the anticipation of Steve Nash’s return has gained great significance. On Tuesday, the two times MVP gave a rough Christmas timeline for his
return, but within 24 hours, reports have emerged that the point guard might make a comeback on Saturday when the Lakers take on the streaking Golden State Warriors.
On Tuesday, Nash had revealed that he was still experiencing some discomfort in his leg, but kept the chances of his early return open and dependant on the practices in the upcoming days.
"Everything I do causes some pain," Nash said. "With a broken bone, I think it takes time, especially after long periods of inactivity, to be pain-free. I think there might be three or four weeks where I'm still feeling it. But
that doesn't mean I won't be able to play sooner."
According to ESPN Los Angeles, the guard’s rehab for a non displaced fracture in the left leg has gone well enough and there is 50-50 percent chance of his return against the Warriors this weekend.
Nash’s return can be a welcome prospect for the Lakers, who also got power forward Pau Gasol back on the court on tonight against the Charlotte Bobcats. Gasol missed eight consecutive games for the Lakers due to tendinitis in both
his knees, but said before the game that he was completely ready to go.
With all their star players fit, the Lakers can finally start re-building their disastrous campaign. The Hollywood franchise currently stands at the 12th spot in the Western Conference, and has been struggling to adjust
under the new system of Mike D’Antoni. The return of Steve Nash can help a lot in that aspect, and will also go a long way in easing the playmaking and leadership duties of a certain Kobe Bryant, not to mention the pick and rolls for the bigs.
