Steve Nash looking forward to playing with the Lakers next season – NBA News
Steve Nash will finally be getting a real opportunity to win the elusive NBA championship next season when he steps onto the court alongside Kobe Bryant, Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol.
Nash landed at the Lakers during the summer of surprise after the Lakers were able to pull off a sign and trade with long time rivals Phoenix Suns at the request of Nash. The Lakers then landed Dwight Howard
in a blockbuster four team trade, a move that elevated the franchise back to the top of the Western Conference.
Nash, the two time regular season MVP, played much of his peak years with the Phoenix Suns and came close to the NBA Finals on a few occasions, but was never able to win a championship.
“It’s a dream come true to play with that type of talent, so at this stage of my career, in particular, I have great appreciation for this opportunity falling in my lap,” said Nash in an interview with Matt Sekeres
and Tony Gallagher on TEAM 1040.
Although the Lakers have had a very successful offseason and have compiled a championship contending team, they know it is not going to be that easy, with the Oklahoma City Thunder maturing with each season.
They will also need to learn how to play with each other, which is a task in itself. The Lakers are now a team filled with players who are used to being the main guys on the team and having the offense run through them. Next season, will be a huge transition
for all of them.
“If that’s what I can bring to the team, shooting, spreading the floor and giving these guys room to operate, that would be great,” said Nash as he spoke briefly of his role in the team.
With the size and age on the team, LAL are not going to be the fastest team out there. However, Nash seems optimistic with the roster that the Lakers have.
“All of us are getting a little older, but I think collectively we can be really strong defensively with our intelligence, experience and the length that obviously Pau and Dwight give us,”
What that happens quickly enough or not next season, might be the difference between another failed run or a championship.
