The two times MVP point guard embraces the opportunity to learn the new Princeton offense
There were a lot of uncertainties regarding the offensive system that was run by the Los Angeles Lakers last season as it saw an element of great stagnancy throughout. The results of that one-dimensioned offence, circled around
Kobe Bryant, were pretty eminent throughout and especially came forth during the playoffs when the spineless Lakers went down to Oklahoma City Thunder.
But, this offseason has been a summer of change for the Hollywood based organization. Mitch Kupchack and co have completely re-vamped their roster by orchestrating the additions of Dwight Howard and Steve Nash.
Now with quality players on board, the Lakers are attempting to introduce a new offensive system as well - the Princeton offense. For this system to run with fluidity though, the Lakers would need Nash to get acquainted at the
earliest.
Although after gracing the NBA floors with his wizardry for nearly 16 years, Nash does not need much of a lead to grasp what is basically a pick and roll system, but with the opportunity of learning a new offensive system coming
his way, the two time All-star is more than willing to adapt.
"It's going to be a big transition for me, but one I'm excited to take on and be open-minded about," Nash said. "I think that the beauty of this team is that we have a lot of guys that can make the defense pay. If we play together,
and we space the floor, and we read and react, we can be a difficult team to cover."
There is obvious risk of having to install a new system for the third year running, but based on the credentials of the players present on the current Lakers roster, the Princeton offense has a fair chance of being successful.
Eddie Jordan, the man who is considered as a guru of the system is now an assistant coach at the Lakers and his presence would certainly help.
