Steve Nash of Los Angeles Lakers frustrated by the long injury layoff – NBA Update
It has been nearly 26 days since the Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash fractured his left foot in a freak accident involving Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers. Since then, many comeback dates have been floated
– unofficially – but the two times MVP is still on the path of recovery. By the looks of it, it seems that there is still some time before the guard can make it into the starting lineup.
Nash went through a medical check up on Friday and revealed afterward the he is still not able to jog. What he also revealed was his frustration at extended the layout;
"It's hard. I have my moments where I get down," Nash said. "I haven't been out this long in 10 years. It's hard. It's frustrating. I worked really hard this summer and through training camp this year. I was just starting to come
into myself. Now how long is that going to get that back when I'm healthy. It all plays in your mind and makes you really eager."
"It's difficult for me to be myself and not be playing," he added. "You're not healthy, you can't work, you can't add energy. You can't do anything. I'm watching and trying to take it in, but I'm also trying to fight my own mentality
in getting my body ready.”
Nash’s return became more anticipated when Mike D’Antoni, his former coach at the Phoenix Suns, was appointed as the head coach at the Lakers. The Nash-D’Antoni combo worked wonders back in the desert city, leading to two MVP titles
for Nash and a coach of the year laurel for Mike.
The presence of Nash in the Lakers lineup was one of the main reasons behind D’Antoni’s selection as the head coach, over the legendary Phil Jackson. So far though, D’Antoni has been running the offense without Nash and his backup
Steve Blake, who has also been out for a while due to lower abdominal strain. In the absence of the Steves, rookie Darius Morris and Chris Duhon have been playing point. Although Blake is slated to make a return in Tuesday’s home game against the Indiana Pacers,
it is the comeback of Nash, which has been the talk of the town. Sooner the All-Star point guard makes his way into the lineup; the better it is for the team, considering their title ambitions this season.
