Steve Nash of Los Angeles Lakers likely out for two more weeks – NBA Update
There are many people in Los Angeles, who believe that Steve Nash is the antidote which the Lakers need to overcome their early season struggles. The two times MVP is supposed to be the centre piece of Mike D’Antoni’s offense,
and his absence has been greatly detrimental to the team.
And according to the recent chatter, Nash still needs some time to make a comeback. Talking to Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News, the player recently admitted that the recovery will need more time;
“Another 10 days to two weeks?” Nash, who has missed 15 consecutive games for the Lakers, said . “That’s a total guess. Since I can’t run, I’m not going to play this week….
“The recovery time is getting better,” Nash said. “But it’s a small improvement.”
D’Antoni also sounded less hopeful about an immediate return of Nash, who will accompany the side on a three game road trip to Houston, New Orleans and Oklahoma City;
"When he feels secure physically -- whether he's playing well (in practice) or not -- I think he'll come back," the Lakers coach said. "He just wants to make sure he doesn't reinjure anything. I've known him forever, and he's always
playing at a high level. His mental ability to be able to pass the ball and stuff. ... He might not be at what he thinks is a high level, but it will be high for us."
The Lakers have been very up and down so far. True they don’t have a genuine play maker in their ranks, but there is nothing Nash would be able to do, if the Lakers don’t start defending well and their substitutes begin to score
more. Things like Dwight Howard’s free throws and Pau Gasol’s inaptitude to the D’Antoni’s system have to be sorted out on their own; there is nothing Nash’s return will do to help that.
In short, the team will have to raise its intensity if they are to pull off a substantial winning run and a have a realistic chance of a championship in the longer run.
 Off course, Nash will be a major cog of that run, but he is just the part of the solution, not the solution itself.
