Steve Nash on fire as Phoenix Suns surge late to beat New Orleans Hornets 120 – 103 – NBA Recap
The Phoenix Suns have fallen on tough times recently so up stepped talismanic point guard Steve Nash with a brilliant display to earn a victory for his embattled side. Nash was the main protagonist as the Suns went on a rampage late in their game against
the New Orleans Hornets to win 120 – 103.
Nash was the undoubted star of the show with a game high 30 points and 10 assists to his name. The veteran super star had able support from Marcin Gortat, who finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds.
Reserve Greivis Vasquez led the Hornets with 20 points and 12 assists while Jason Smith had 16 points and Trevor Ariza had 15 to his name.
The game at the New Orleans Arena was a thoroughly entertaining one as two sides looking for redemption gave their all in front of a vibrant crowd. They went toe to toe early on and were pretty much inseparable in the first quarter. The home side did able
to end it on top with a slight margin 27 – 25.
The second period was equally enthralling and had even more fireworks for the fans as both sides abandoned their defensive responsibilities to play attacking, attractive basketball. The result was 63 points in the segment but the scores were still very close
at the end of the first half at 59 – 56 to New Orleans.
The Hornets opened the second half with an effort from beyond the arc but the Suns actually had a better start. After New Orleans’ opening salvo Phoenix went on a 10 – 0 run that put them ahead by 4 points at 66 – 62. The Hornets didn’t allow them to get
away with it though and by the end of the third segment the gap was just 1 point, 88 – 87 to the Suns.
The game however completely turned in the fourth quarter as the Suns went berserk and New Orleans had no answer for them. Nash featured heavily in a 21 – 2 game changing rush by the Suns that put them 20 points ahead with just under 2 minutes left in the
game. The hapless Hornets knew there was no coming back and the game closed at 120 – 103.
