Steve Nash opens about the Lakers’ struggles; Urges fans to be realistic about the team prospects even after his return
Steve Nash has missed the last 22 games for the Los Angeles Lakers since fracturing the fibula on his left leg on Oct.31.
Nash’s absence has become more prominent ever since the arrival of new head coach Mike D’Antoni, who has been supremely successful with Nash in the past, and without him, he is struggling to implement his philosophy at the Lakers.
The guard however revealed after the loss against the New York Knicks, Lakers’ 4th in as many games, that has started running and is in the final stage of rehabilitation. If everything goes according to plan the former
Phoenix Suns star might return in the middle of next week.
With the Lakers being so woeful off late, many people have pinned a lot of expectations for Steve, and believe that his return might be the antidote to the problems of the team. Nash realises that, but on Thursday, he made it clear
that the results, wins or loses, after he makes a comeback will be team centric;
"If I come back and we take off, by no means am I the saviour," Nash said. "If I come back and we struggle with it, it's not going to be all on me. It's a team sport. We all got to work. And if people want to judge us when I come
back, that's fine. I'm not bothered by it. I just want to focus on getting as fit as I can to try to help the team as much as I can and let the chips fall."
While Nash’s return will certainly make the Lakers more potent, there is also a matter of adjustment for the guard himself. This is Nash’s first season at the Lakers and he has never played with the likes of Kobe Bryant, Dwight
Howard, Pau Gasol and Metta World Peace in the past. Nash will certainly require some coping up, and the Lakers would hope that he does it quickly. Any more delay in producing positive results, and the Lakers may get out of the playoff picture this season.
