Two times MVP Steve Nash reveals that staying close to family was as a huge factor in his decision to adorn the Lakers colours
After agreeing to sign with long time rivals Los Angeles Lakers on a sign and trade deal over from Phoenix Suns, Steve Nash has revealed that staying close to his children was one of the main reasons behind his decision to head
over to Hollywood.
"The idea to be close to my son, my daughters, who will be in Phoenix, was the No. 1 priority,"
Los Angeles wasn’t the only offer available to the two times MVP who had lucrative offers from the Toronto Raptors along with New York Knicks.
The trade possibility to the Lakers could not have come at a more right time for the Canadian point guard who has graced the NBA with his masterful wizardry for 16 years.
By adorning the purple and yellow colours of the Lakers, Nash will be joining a team which he battled against for years. Both LA and Phoenix have been Western Conference powerhouses in the past but despite the rivalry Steve feels,
he can blend in well.
"I think I'm a good fit for the team, and we have a great team, we're a contender, that's all incredible, too.”
The biggest task for Nash is to form a back-court chemistry with Kobe Bryant who has been running the show at the Lakers land for more than a decade. Mike Brown, the Lakers coach, has been running the offense through Bryant for
most of last season and it will be interesting to see how Nash acclimatizes to that role.
Nash believes that the merger will bring out the best among both of them;
"Perhaps we can make each other better," Nash said. "That combination will hopefully make it a little easier for Kobe as well. A lot of work to do, and right now we can only speculate and envision."
His inclusion will also benefit the twin towers of the Lakers – Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol. Nash has a tremendous court vision and it only means that Gasol and Bynum will have more scoring opportunities.
