Steve Nash pleads NBA owners to get a move on in the labour dispute: NBA Lockout News
In an effort to show unity and gain public support during the lockout, the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) recently launched a campaign on Twitter, with the name ‘Let Us Play’. By Monday afternoon, the campaign was
all over the twitter as the locked out players shared their comments directly.
Phoenix Suns veteran point guard Steve Nash was one of those players. However instead of bashing the owners downright, the Suns swingman pleaded the NBA owners to ends the ongoing lockout. Nash questioned the flexibility and seriousness
of owners so far, citing the fact that players are willing to sacrifice some percentage of Basketball Related Income (BRI).
“The NBA has experienced over 60 yrs of growth with new growth projected using the current model. After a banner year the players are still willing to GIVE the owners a higher percentage in good faith. Why are the owners unwilling
to negotiate in good faith?” Steve said.
While requesting the owners to be proactive in solving the lockout, the 37-year-old Canadian star also apologized to the basketball fans.
“As a player I apologize to the fans that we’re in this position but we will not be taken advantage of. In our hearts we’re desperate to play, in our minds we know better and are prepared to stand united. Let us play.”
Steve Nash doesn’t have many years of basketball left in him and he is on the last legs of his NBA career. Still without a championship ring in his otherwise illustrious career, he is one player who cannot afford to lose the NBA
season.
However, the on ground situation is indicating the worst case scenario both for him and other aging stars in the league.
The dreaded lockout has completed more than three months. The free agency, rookie transition camps, NBA training camps and pre-season exhibition game had already become the victims of this money battle and last Monday, NBA Commissioner
David Stern dropped axe on the first two weeks of the 2011-12 season, raising fears that the whole NBA season could be lost.
If that happens, the fans might not see players like Steve Nash, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnet, Jason Kidd and Grant Hill on the NBA circuit ever again. To say that this would be an undeserved end to their glorious careers would be an
understatement.
