The guard seems more worried about the Lakers’ recent woes......
Steve Nash is poetry in motion.
He is one of the best pick exponents of pick and roll the league has ever seen, he has a court vision like no one else and on Tuesday, he became the fifth player ever to surpass the tally of 10,000 assists. Nash reached the hallmark
late in the first half, but when asked about the achievement after the game, which ended in a 125-112 loss, Nash sounded a bit downbeat.
"If I take a step back, it's another example of a fairy-tale career, but it's really hard to enjoy it right now," Nash said after the Lakers' fourth straight loss, this one against the Houston Rockets.
"I don't want to discredit it; I don't want to not appreciate the company I share in this milestone. But right now, that's the farthest thing from my mind. I'm just trying to find a way to win one game."
After a 9-14 status, the Lakers had started to show some progress and were boosted by the comeback of Steve Nash from a left fibula fracture. The Lakers had made their record to 15-15, but have since then lost four consecutive
games. With the season nearly at the midway mark, the possibility of the team not reaching the playoffs is fast becoming a reality.
"That motivates me every day," said the seventeen year veteran. "There's no guarantee (that the Lakers make the playoffs). I think three or four weeks ago, people would have said, 'Ah, it will get better.' Now I definitely don't
think there's a guarantee it will, so the only remedy is continue to work hard and give yourself a chance for it to get better.”
The Lakers’ woes have been increased by the injuries to their two big men, Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol. While Gasol is out with a concussion, Dwight has issues in his right shoulder and will need about a week to fully recover.
This means that more of the scoring load will fall on the shoulders of the experienced duo of Nash and Kobe Bryant.
