Steve Nash returns and Los Angeles Lakers win 118-115 over Golden State Warriors in overtime: NBA Recap
Kobe Bryant missed quite a number of his shots in regulation but in the extended time he proved he has still got it. He scored 6 of his 34 points in overtime as Los Angeles Lakers overcame a 14 point fourth quarter deficit to drop
the Golden State Warriors 118-115 in overtime here at the Oracle Arena on Saturday night.
Steve Nash did not look like the man returning after 24 games as he paced the Lakers with 9 assists and 12 points, going 2 of 2 from the three point land. Metta World Peace collected 20 points and Pau Gasol fell one point short
of his double-double as he finished off with 9 points and 10 rebounds.
"It's easy. It's very easy. It's beyond easy,” Bryant on playing alongside Nash "You put two guys together who can do opposite things and it fits extremely well. When I get a rebound, I look to get the ball in his hands because
I know I will be getting an easy shot."
David Lee posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, Jarrett Jack led the Warriors with 29 points to go along with 11 assists while Stephen Curry finished off with 20 points and 7 assists for the losing cause.
Nash knocked down a three pointer early in the first period to tie the score on 7. It remained close for most of the quarter, it was all square on 20 again and Jordan Hill made a driving layup to put the Lakers up 31-27 by the
end of the quarter.
Hill scored a deuce to push Lakers lead to 38-33 before the Warriors sprang into action with a 8 nil spurt to snatch the lead. Later on, Bryant nailed a three pointer to tie the score on 47 but the Warriors went for a 14-0 run
that had them leading 61-53 by the end of the period.
Two quick deuces early in the third period had the Warriors lead cut to 61-66. However, Golden State meant business and started pulling head later in the quarter. Curry nailed a three pointer to put them up by 10 and they were
leading 87-74 by the end of the third quarter.
Landry made a dunk to put the Warriors ahead by 14 points but the Lakers had other plans and went for a 12 nil run to cut the deficit down to 88-90. Both teams kept it close after that, World Peace sank a three pointer to put the
Lakers up 108-106 with 24.1 seconds on the clock. But Jack once again came to his team’s rescue as he added a couple to tie the score and take the game into overtime.
Bryant took control in overtime; he made 3 deuces in quick succession to put the Lakers up 116-112. Curry connected from downtown to cut the gap down to 1 but Nash scored a deuce to complete his return on a high note.
