Steve Nash says Phoenix Suns need reinforcements to post a challenge for the NBA crown
Phoenix Suns legendary point guard Steve Nash has called on the franchise to strengthen in the summer in order to compete for the biggest prize in professional basketball, the NBA World Championship. Nash said in a recent interview
that the Suns were at a high level but needed one or two quality players to become a real threat for the NBA crown.
Steve Nash is a hero at the Desert City franchise. He joined the franchise after leaving the Dallas Mavericks and close friend Dirk Nowitzki and has since become synonymous with the Suns. As a point guard Nash has excelled and
been the best in the business for quite a while.
His unbelievable play has won the Canadian two NBA regular season MVP awards. The thrilling Nash, who seems super human at times, has always dragged the Suns to overachieve; the Western Conference Finals however remain a roadblock
for the Suns.
Many people consider it a travesty that someone as talented as Steve Nash has never won an NBA World Championship. What’s sadder is the fact that Steve, who is now in the twilight of his career, has never been able to showcase
his talents in an NBA Final.
The Suns man though is not one to give up and he believes he can still be successful with Phoenix, despite strong calls for him to join another franchise. Nash believes that if the Suns acquire someone of great quality, they can
turn things around next season. He quoted the example of Pau Gasol and Rasheed Wallace to support his argument in the interview,
“I think we definitely can get back, but obviously we need to improve our roster a little bit,” he said. “As it stands now, we’re probably a player or two short. But we’ve seen many teams win championships by acquiring a Pau Gasol
[Los Angeles Lakers], or a Tyson Chandler [Dallas Mavericks] or a Rasheed Wallace [Detroit Pistons], whether it’s at the deadline or the summer. So, if we can somehow happen across a player of that calibre, it would be great.”
There was a definite feel good factor after this year’s NBA Finals when the veteran Dallas Mavericks won the NBA World Championship. Many deserving players finally got their hands on the Larry O’Brien trophy including German forward
Dirk Nowitzki, Shaw Marion, Jason Terry and point guard Jason Kidd.
Nash is a former teammate of Dirk from Dallas and Marion from Phoenix. Many basketball fans believe that it will be a pleasure to see Nash too, finally get his hands on some silverware after such a glorious career in the NBA.
