Steve Nash sympathizes with Ricky Rubio; Wishes him a quick recovery - NBA Update
Phoenix Suns talisman Steve Nash recently extended his empathies towards exciting Minnesota Timberwolves playmaker Ricky Rubio, who was ruled out of the season after a knee injury last month.
Branding him as one of the best young point guards of the league, Nash said;
"I was very disappointed for Ricky," Nash said after the Suns' practice Monday, April 9, hours before playing the Timberwolves at Target Centre. "He was having a very good rookie season. It was a shame when he went down. People
have a ton of respect for his ability and what he brings to the league. He's an exciting player for our league and the fans."
The 21 years old Spanish swingman tore his anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligament in his left knee in a game against Los Angeles Lakers. With the game on the line, Rubio tried to help out on the defense and rushed to
guard Kobe Bryant near the top of the key. Kobe faked him but not before bumping knees with Rubio, who immediately grabbed his knee and was carried off the court by his teammates, Martell Webster and fellow rookie Derrick Williams.
The Spanish player underwent a surgery on March 21, and will have to stay off the court for the next 6 to 9 months, also ruining his chances to participate in the 2012 London Olympics.
The 6’4’’ guard was proving to be a consistent force for Wolves. He averaged 10.6 points, 8.2 assists and 4.2 boards in 41 games while starting 31 of those. He was ranked 5th in assists and is still 3rd in
steals. Due to his brilliant on court performance he was crowned the February’s NBA Rookie of the month award in the Western Conference.
Till the time, Rubio was there, the Wolves were in serious contention to qualify for the playoffs. The most important thing was that many people were comparing Rubio’s nonchalant style of play with Nash. With the unofrtunate injury,
the comparisons also came to an end.
He wished the player a speedy recovery and hoped that this all will be over soon.
"He's way ahead of the game ... with his experience internationally and the way he adapted so quickly to the NBA game," Nash said "He's been playing professionally for a long time. He's young. He'll recover well. He'll be back.
Hopefully, no one will remember it ever happened."
