Steve Nash to the Miami Heat; Is it really a possibility - NBA Feature
Steve Nash is heading towards free agency at the end of this season and this has created a spark in the word of NBA. Almost all of the franchises are yearning to rope in the legendary point-guard. Keeping his statute and experience
in mind, only a few can however come up with the necessary salary cap to entice Nash.
The front runner in ‘get the Nash campaign’ were the New York Knicks. They have been intent on using their $ 5million midlevel exception and Nash former colleague Amare' Stoudemire as bait to attract Steve. But in a recent development
it has been learnt that Nash is not interested.
Steve at the age of 38 has shined in 15 seasons but he is still without a championship ring. He knows that his days in the mainstream basketball are numbered. So at the prime of his career he will choose a franchise that has a
clear shot on the championship title.
That is the reason his name has been associated with the Southern Beach titans Miami Heat. Heat are having a great run in this season, with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade surpassing all previous records. The way Heat squad stood
up in the absence of Chris Bosh and made a deep run into the postseason is simply unprecedented.
Nash has also shown his leverage towards Heat, he said that if Miami came calling then he would defiantly listen. How the Heat will create the necessary salary space is another question, as their roster is already filled with superstars.
As things stand now they don’t have much to offer for Nash but there is a bigger problem, Heat’s system.
Heat offense is run by small forward and shooting guard, while Nash, the most gifted point-guard needs maximum possession of the ball. He doesn’t really fit in that equation right now.
If He opts for Miami then he will have to adopt an off-ball role, something that Nash hasn’t done in 15 years. He is more of a floor manager, Nash is best at creating and providing. Something that doesn’t fit in the Miami run
and gun style. Wade and James create the offense and their success lies in the explosiveness. Adding Steve will result into different dimension of game.
Nash will have to make significant adjustment to his game but at this point of his career would he be willing to let go off his signature style. Nash is great and eventually his addition in Heat will alleviate the club to another
level, but will Nash be able to sacrifice his style.
Nash is a treat for the players like Amar’e Stoudemire, who requires the ball inside the post. But in the case of Heat they have their sharp shooters who can inflict damage from any part of the floor.
One of the most significant improvements that were observed in this season was James ability to provide and provide big time.  James averaged 6.2 assists and has developed a perfect chemistry with Wade. Similarly on most occasions
Wade provides for James and Chris, Wade has averaged 4.6 assists in this season.
In a nutshell, with a scanty salary cap and a perfectly running offensive system, the chances for Nash inclusion in the squad are grim. However the final answer will only be received in the coming months.
