Steve Nash unlikely to join New York Knicks-NBA Update
It seems that Amare' Stoudemire will not be granted his wish to be re-united with Steve Nash. In a recent development sources have learnt that Nash is not considering New York as his next abode.
Jared Zwerling, ESPN reporter broke the news over twitter on May 24 that Nash has no interest in Big Apple.
“MokeHamilton @hoopscritic Hearing that Nash won't want to come to NY. We can likely kiss that notion goodbye”.
Steve Nash’s contract with Phoenix Suns is maturing at the end of this season. This particular news has created a lot of sensation in the NBA. Almost all of the franchises with whatever salary cap available, have came out to net
in Nash, the charismatic point guard.
NYK were also rolling dice to rope in Nash, on one hand they have tried to entice Steve with their $ 5million midlevel exception and on other they used Amare’ to persuade Steve consider Knicks.
Stoudemire went public, pleading Nash to board New York wagon almost a fortnight ago.
“Everyone knows that Steve loves New York and that New York loves Steve,” Stoudemire told The Daily News. “I love Steve. It would be great to have him here next year.”
If Nash decided otherwise then Amare’ was the one benefiting most from him. His performance manifolds with a seasoned point guard contemplating his game. He was at the zenith of his game when Jeremy Lin was around (before injury).
Similarly he and Nash ran for 6 seasons before Amare’ left Phoenix Suns and headed towards free agency in 2010. However, for now Knicks and Stoudemire will have to manage without Steve.
In pursuit of this dream they also filed a case for the bird rights, which is still pending with the arbitrator. If they got the decision in their favour they can re-sign Lin without touching the midlevel exception and can also
rehire Steve Novak, while keeping the midlevel exception aside for Nash.
The franchise will go for Lin with or without bird rights. Previously there was a question raised that is it prudent to keep two point guards, Lin and Nash on the same team. If they do then how will they distribute the minutes
amongst them, as Lin has evolved to the point where he can assume the distribution role on his own.
Lin didn’t comment about the situation but what if he decides to walk away and with Nash already off the table, this could turn out to be a real dilemma for Knicks.
Nash at the age of 38 knows that his days in the mainstream basketball are numbered. He wants to run with a team that has a potential to win the championship, so that by the end of day he would have at least one championship ring
on his hand.
Earlier sources pointed out his leverage towards Southern beach, but Miami Heat roster is oozing with superstars and they don’ have salary cap provision to cover Nash.
The only possible team with right attributes and a lot of salary cap is Dallas Mavericks. However the decision rests with Nash and only the time will decide his choice.
