Steve Nash wants Grant Hill back in Phoenix Suns – NBA Update
Phoenix Suns talismanic star Steve Nash has given a ringing endorsement to teammate Grant Hill and has urged the franchise to re-sign him when the free agency begins.
Hill joined the Suns four years ago and is a free agent at the moment.
Nash wants the veteran small forward, now 39 years old, back in the fold for next season as he believes Hill is an invaluable member of the team. Grant brings great experience and leadership to the Phoenix Suns, therefore sharing
some of the burden on Nash’s shoulders, and the veteran point guard made it clear that he wouldn’t be satisfied if Grant wasn’t with him next season.
"I think he's very important to the team and the community," Nash said. "I'm not sure where it stands right now, but I believe the organization recognizes his value to the team and the club, and it's a big issue for me."
Nash believed that Grant himself would want to come back to Phoenix as he has been a great fit in the team since arriving at the franchise. Hill has also developed a good rapport with the fans and therefore should be comfortable
with making a return.
"All things being even Grant would want to come back here.” Nash said according to ESPN.
Grant is a veteran of almost two decades in the NBA. He came into the league back in 1994 as the 3rd overall pick for the Detroit Pistons. After six years in Detroit, Grant made the move to Orlando Magic where he played
until 2007.
He has often suffered injuries in his career but since joining the Phoenix Suns he has been very fit, especially in the last three seasons. Despite his advancing years, Grant is still a very productive force out on the court, contributing
13.2 points per game last season.
Nash said Grant’s high numbers and his wealth of experience is likely to make him a very attractive target for a number of teams in the free agency, therefore it was important that the Suns make him the best offer they can.
"But I think it depends on the situation," he said. "I'm sure he's going to be highly coveted by a lot of teams, so Phoenix will have to make him a great offer and put him in a position where he can't say no to coming back."
Nash himself is a very senior member of the side and at 37 years old is still the franchise player for Phoenix. There were rumours before the lockout that Steve could be traded but it is unlikely given his hero status for the whole
city, which has earned a place in his heart since coming over from Dallas.
