Steve Nash weighing all options as Phoenix Suns contract expires at the end of this Season: NBA News
In the last 16 years in NBA, there has been no player as unselfish as Steve Nash.
The man branded as the ‘poetry in motion’ has revolutionized how point guards are perceived in the league and his unselfishness knows no boundaries. Perhaps it has been this nature of the man that has forced him to stay with the
Phoenix Suns so far.
But now with his playing career almost coming to end, Nash seems ready to make one choice purely for himself – the pursuit of an NBA Championship which has been the only thing that has eluded him in his career so far.
The 8 time NBA All-Star, 2 time league MVP has achieved much in his career but the all important championship has been missing from his repertoire of excellence. In his recent comments, Nash has contemplated on the matter that
he may make the move to a ready contender team which may help him in achieving his goal even if has to do it on a smaller pay check.
With his current contract expiring at the end of this season putting him on free agency, Nash still has a lot of time to take in, consider and evaluate his options.
However this season, Nash has had a lot of fun in the shortened season with the Suns. As the current standings stand, with the second half the Suns have had behind Nash`s extravagant playmaking, they might just get a taste of the
post season action.
Even then, he still may not re-sign for Phoenix due to the financial restrictions that are going to affect the Suns chances of putting together new pieces to become a championship calibre team.
All the same if Nash leaves, the Suns would suffer a significant blow to their restructuring process. It all comes down to priorities both for Nash and Phoenix, come the start of next season. As a lot of good players would be entering
into free agency, Suns have a great chance of landing at least some of those. Nash commented on the matter.
“It's hard to sit here and predict but anything's possible," Nash said. "I think this franchise definitely has a great opportunity this summer with the flexibility in cap space it has to improve a great deal, whether that's just
one step up the ladder or three or four is yet to be seen.”
When asked about his future, Nash elaborated on the matter that he still has to weigh in his options and would not commit to anything at the moment.
There are a lot of things which would be on his mind regarding the matter, the first being, his family which is well settled in Phoenix, the second being, what he sees best for his career.
However he did lay emphasis on the matter that money may not be a liability to his decision as he would consider playing for lesser money in order for him to achieve his goals.
"It's possible, I want to put them all in and evaluate all the different factors and all the things to consider” – Nash said regarding his options. But he definitely labelled a smaller pay check a considerable option, in order
for him to join a title contender next season.
