Steve Nicol’s resignation hard for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/New-England-Revolution-c40026 to overcome – MLS News
New England Revolution are having a hard time coming to terms with the sudden departure of head coach, Steve Nicol.
Being the boss of a team for over 10 years incorporates many advantages but it is also having a negative impact on the outfit. For some of the younger players, such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Shalrie-Joseph-c33235, Nicol was a father figure.
He was not only a mentor to the players on the pitch but also a good friend off the field.
“It was a lot of fun every day coming in and working with him,” Joseph said. “He was always there for me, no matter what was going on in my personal life.”
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 FC stalwart had great times with the Revs’ roster and the management. Although he still had a month to run on his contract, Nicol bid farewell to his former team and the management in a press conference right after announcing his resignation.
He thanked the Krafts family for offering him his first http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 in the Americas.
In spite of a disappointing 2011 season, that saw the Revolution at the bottom of league table for majority of the season, the players were content with Nicol’s management style. According to them, the Scotsman was a players’ coach.
“He's the ultimate players' coach,” Revolution defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darrius-Barnes-c10367 told the media. “He's someone you want to play for. He has a good time with you.”
Although the resignation is hard to digest for some players, who have only seen Nicol as their professional coach, they wished him best of luck in his future endeavours.
A man of Nicol’s experience always has ample opportunities, said midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-Tierney-c9034.
“He was a great guy in terms of a soccer guy, but he was an even more solid person in general. I'm disappointed to see him go, but a coach of his quality is going to have plenty of opportunities elsewhere,” said Tierney.
The new challenges for the NE are to grapple with the loss of a talented manager and look for a replacement that can revive the team in the 2012 season.
