Steve Nielsen set to leave Caterham in January – Formula 1 news
Caterham have announced that their sporting director, Steve Nielsen is going to leave the team in January.
Nielsen has worked with Lotus, Tyrrell, Benetton and Arrows before joining the Leafield based squad at the end of last year. However, a spokesperson for Caterham has recently confirmed that Nielsen will leave the team in January.
“Caterham F1 Team has today confirmed that Steve Nielsen is leaving his post of Sporting Director in January,” said a spokesperson for the team.
Furthermore, he said that they are presently evaluating some potential options for the post of sporting director and will make the final decision in this regard soon.
“The team is currently assessing the best options for his replacement and will make an announcement in due course,” he added.
Although, Caterham started the season with highest hopes, however, they could not score even a single point in the championship.
Nevertheless, their driver, Vitaly Petrov performed really well in the Brazilian Grand Prix which was held at Interlagos and managed to secured 11th place finish which helped the Leafield based team in attaining 10th place in this year’s
constructors’ championship. Furthermore, they remained ahead of their main rival, Marussia and behind Toro Rosso.
On the other hand, Petrov came 19th in the drivers’ championship. Besides, he stood behind Toro Rosso pair of drivers, Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo. Additionally, he stayed ahead of Marussia drivers, Timo Glock and Charles Pic.
Meanwhile, his teammate, Heikki Kovalainen secured 22nd position in the drivers’ standings and remained ahead of Jerome D’Ambrosio of Lotus.
Unfortunately, in this season, Caterham could not attain their aim, but they are not feeling upset and are positively looking forward to perform well in the coming year.
In addition, they are targeting to make the necessary preparations during winter testing so as to take a strong start in the next season and are eying to compete well with their rivals.
It will be important to mention that the competition is going to more intense in the next year as all the contenders are trying their best to develop competitive cars. Let’s see how Caterham perform in the coming season and whether they will be able to score
their first point or not.
