Steve O'Keefe may replace http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823’ captain – Cricket News Update
Left-handed batsman, Simon Katich, is likely to be replaced by the 26-year-old Steve O'Keefe, as the New South Wales’ (NSW) captain.
Reportedly, the New South Wales' management is concerned over Katich's age, who is now 36, and is looking to appoint a new skipper for the side.
Left-arm orthodox spinner, O'Keefe, who was recently selected in the Australian squad for the upcoming 2 Twenty20 matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, is up for contention to replace Katich.
Katich, the 36-year-old veteran was earlier dumped by Cricket Australia (CA) when they announced the list of centrally contracted players; however, he recently captained NSW in the Nokia Champions League T20 (NCLT20).
The Western http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746-born batsman, who has also represented the County  at the International level, guided his side to play the semi-final against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Despite Katich and his men’s terrific recital, RCB beat them by 6 wickets in an exciting and nail biting contest.
Coming back to NSW’s future plans, the experienced Katich does not fit in the setup due to his age factor, which has compelled the management to consider the young O'Keefe.
However, O'Keefe’s manager, Andrew Fraser, has refused to comment over the possible appointment of the useful all-rounder.
"I will leave it up to Cricket NSW to make any announcement surrounding the captaincy." He told reporters.
In the meantime, Fraser has also appreciated the Malaysia-born O'Keefe, showing confidence over his leadership skills.
According to him, O'Keefe, the veteran of 14 First-class matches, 29 List A fixtures, and 18 Twenty20s, is an ideal option to be considered for captaincy in the better interest of the side.
"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-Rodger-Waugh-c91216 Medal last season. He is recognised as a future leader. He's got a very smart cricket brain. And he's a great communicator. If he was to be awarded the NSW captaincy, it would be a huge honour and I have no doubt he would do a great job." The manager added.
