Steve O’Keefe looking to make a mark in Champions League T20 - Cricket News Update
Australia’s left-arm spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harold-William-Stephenson-c61707 O’Keefe is geared up to find a permanent spot in the national team, by performing consistently in the opportunities he gets at the International level.
O’Keefe is also a part of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 Blues (NSWB) team, which is all set to take part in the on-going Champions League T20 tournament in India.
NSWB is considered among the favourites of the illustrious event along with Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. On the spin friendly pitches in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, O’Keefe is expected to play a big role, if the Blues are to do well.
The left-arm spinner revealed that he was disheartened from cricket about a couple of years back and was planning to find a career in some other field. However, after representing his country in limited overs cricket, O’Keefe wants to make the most of it
and is hoping for a long career ahead.
O’Keefe said, “I feel very privileged. Only a couple of years ago I wasn't in the mix and was considering a couple of other career options and every opportunity I am going to try and grab it with both hands.”
The 26-year-old cricketer has so far played 14 first-class matches, in which he has grabbed 52 scalps at an average of 24.05, which is very good for a slow bowler. He is yet to make his debut in One Day International cricket and Test matches, but has played
five T20 Internationals for Australia.
While talking about his prospects in the Champions League T20, O’Keefe expressed that it is going to be a huge experience for him to bowl in the Indian conditions, which are totally different from those in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
“I feel it is completely different to bowl on the sub-continental wickets. Spin's tradition in Australia is to try and toss the ball up and a get enough spin and drift. Here, it is a lot more scrambled thing. You bowl a lot more into the wicket. Traditionally
I try and drift the ball as much which I find here quite challenging,” the left arm spinner added.
