Steve Soboroff defends Frank McCourt and explains why he is with Los Angeles Dodgers in dire times
Steve Soboroff, Vice Chairman of the Los Angeles Dodgers was appointed to the team on Tuesday. Unfortunately, he was unable to take charge as the Major League Baseball organisation took over the day-to-day activities of the Dodgers on Wednesday through a
statement by MLB commissioner, Bud Selig.
The executive took the time to talk to the press at the Dodgers’ stadium during the game between the club and the Atlanta Braves. While he contested the decision that took away the control of the team from owner and Chairman Frank McCourt, he vehemently
defended him and spoke openly on why he was sticking around to help the side in a dire situation.
The Dodgers have been caught in controversy at the moment, as a brutal fight in the stadium left one loyal San Francisco Giants’ fan in critical condition. An incident like that, tied with McCourt’s high profile divorce case, has landed the club in hot water.
Nevertheless, there are skeptics who deem McCourt’s activities as damaging to the organisation.
Soboroff defended his colleague, claiming that he had gone through a rough divorce and is deeply concerned about the organisation. He characterized his response to the recent MLB takeover as ‘mature’. The executive was the CEO of Playa Vista community and
is a current board member of Weingart Foundation and the EXPO centre in Exposition Park.
When asked why he was putting his reputation on the line for the Dodgers, he gave a clear answer.
"I'm doing it to make L.A. a better place," Soboroff said. "[McCourt] has given me an opportunity to do good things for L.A. from a place that I can do big-time good things for L.A. I'm not doing this for any reason other than to help L.A. And I'd love to
show the commissioner what's going on here."
With an unstable environment, many cannot expect much from Soboroff but he still has authority in the club. Maybe he can deliver some good until the time MLB appoints a representative.
