Steve Strіcker remains in contention for his fourth win in a row at the John Deere Classic
Steve Strіcker, who posted а stunning six-under par 65 to open the John Deere Classic, turned in another polished effort on the TPC Deere Run layout, mixing five birdies against а lone bogey for а two-day total of 10-under par 132.
Steve remained consistent in his performance and recorded five birdies against a lone bogey, during the second round of the tournament, to finish three strokes off the pace set by Troy Matteson at 13-under par halfway score.
“It was fairly solid (round),” said Stricker, who looks forward to winning the tournament for the fourth time in a row.
“I made a couple birdies probably that I shouldn't have, and then missed a couple opportunities that I should have taken advantage of. So I guess it kind of evened out”.
According to him, his game from the tee to the green was better on the second day, as he shot more fairways and greens compared to Thursday’s round.
As a result, he is now in a good position while heading for the final two rounds of the event from where, he can challenge his rivals quite easily on top of the leaderboard.
“I think I actually hit the ball a little bit better today,” said the American, who won the last year’s event with a birdie on the final hole.
“Hit more fairways, hit more greens, so it was a good round. Wish I could have gotten a couple more out of it, but overall I'm in a good position heading into the weekend”.
Stricker believes that he needs to record at least a 10-under par score on the weekend if he wants to complete the PGA Tour slam of winning the event for straight four years. In addition to that, it also depends on how his competitors perform in the remaining
two rounds.
In the 2012 PGA Tour season, he already bagged a victory to his name. He secured a win at the season opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions and currently ranks 20th in the FedEx Cup standings.
Therefore, a win at TPC Deere Run can create his chances for making it to the US Ryder Cup team this year as well.
