Steve Stricker aiming a slam in PGA Tour history
Steve Stricker, the winner of season opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions, is set to record another victory of the season, when he will tee off at the John Deere Classic, on Thursday, July 12, 2012.
It is not the second victory that is making him feel a bit nervous. In fact, it is all about winning the tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
This feat is really special to him, as only four professionals have succeeded in recording four victories in a row so far. They include Young Tom Morris, Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen and Tiger Woods.
Hagen Captured the PGA Championship from 1924 to 1927, and Sarazen did it back in 1927 to 1930 at Miami Open.
Morris claimed the British Open from 1868 to 1870. In 1871, however, the event did not take place. Therefore, his fourth victory came in the year 1872.
On the other hand, Woods is the only player who achieved this feat twice in his career. He won the Bay Hill Invitational, currently known as Arnold Palmer Invitational, from 2000 to 2003 and Buick Invitational, currently known as Farmers Insurance Open from
2005 to 2008.
After winning the event for the third time in a row in 2011, Stricker avoided to talk about the chances of making it to four in the next edition. This year, he admitted that it was on his mind for the last one year.
"I'm a deer hunter. To get a trophy with a deer on there, that's pretty cool. It's one of my favorite trophies. . . . Maybe that's karma for me. But it's a special place for me here".
Recently, he also confirmed that he will participate in the upcoming British Open. Therefore, TPC Deere Run can be a good place for him to make final preparations for the third major event of the year.
"The community has adopted me, I guess," said Stricker, who captured the 12th PGA Tour victory of his career in January this year. "They come out, give me a tremendous amount of support".
"Yeah, it's a lot of fun to come back. I have a lot of family and friends from Wisconsin and Illinois, where I went to school. It's a good week, one I look forward to every year," he added.
