Steve Stricker aiming to write his name in history books
Even before the season started, Steve Stricker had his eyes set on the John Deere Classic. Why? Because he has won this title three times in a row and if he wins this year, his name will be included among the few men who have won a title four times consecutively.
John Deere Classic is played on a golf course that suits Sticker’s game. The TPC Deere Run course requires expertise in irons and approaches.
This course is not designed for long range drivers. Instead, it is the short game that is essential to succeed on this golf course.
"It is a special place," Stricker said. "A lot of great things have happened to me here, and it is a week I look forward to every year".
Steve has a very strong iron game and this is the main reason for his success at the John Deere Classic.
Steve has been taking advice from Tiger Woods lately, "He told me to get it done," Stricker said. "And he also threw me a jab, saying 'Only one of us has won four in a row'".
This is a golf course where Stricker would love to play all day long. He was extremely jubilant going in to the tournament and was hopeful about his chances.
"This is the type of golf course that I have grown up on," Stricker said. "I can drive from (Madison), and it is comfortable surroundings".
If Stricker manages to achieve this feat, he will be the fifth golfer ever to have accomplished such an achievement.
The winner at the John Deere Classic takes home 500 FedEx Cup points, plus, a hefty amount of $810,000.
Tough competition is to be expected this time around with Zach Johnson also in nice touch. He will probably give Stricker the toughest challenge at the John Deere Classic. Last year, Zach finished T3 and this time around, he hopes to go two steps further.
Stricker seems to be very calm and relaxed going into the tournament. He is not thinking too much about the record which he will equal, if he wins. His focus is rather on golf.
