Steve Stricker confirms his commitment to the Shell Houston Open
Steve Stricker has confirmed that he will be playing the Shell Houston Open, scheduled from March 29 to April 1, at the Redstone Golf Club, Tournament Course, Humble, Texas.
The 45-year-old American professional golf player is now in the field of the tournament, staged by Professional Golf Association in the US.
All the players will compete for the purse of $6 million, out of which, the winning share is $1,062,000.
This tournament is also special for being played just a month before the first major of the year, the Masters. Phil Mickelson is the defending champion and the biggest rival for Stricker.
He has not played many tournaments in the current season and was mostly on a lay off period.
In January, he had played only two PGA staged events and his followers are still waiting for his performance.
The current world no. 5 successfully won the title of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. He scored 23-under par and 269 strokes in total.
This was his best enormous score of 2012 and he defeated Martin Laird with a lead of three strokes.
He earned $1,120,000 and 500 additional FedEx Cup points. A victory at the season opening tournament proves his confidence level and his commitment to the game.
After that, he played the Sony Open in Hawaii and finished on the 38th position. Later, he did not play any PGA staged event but now, he is heading to the Shell Houston Open.
However, in the month of February, he played his first World Golf Championship staged event of the year.
He amazed his fans by finishing the Accenture Match Play Championship on the ninth position.
He competed well for the title and displayed an amazing performance throughout the four-day tournament. Again, this was the only tournament he played in February.
Stricker continued his leading performance at the Cadillac Championship and finished it on the eighth position in March.
He was again tremendous against the field players and scored 11-under 277 amazingly.
Now after cheering the spectators and competing well against the others, he is confident to display his leading performance at Redstone Golf Club, Tournament Course.
The field is tough and Stricker has to show extremely appealing strokes, so that he can finish among the top-10 on the leaderboard.
