Steve Stricker receives Cortisone shots to keep him on course for the FedExCup Playoffs final event
Steve Stricker, the top ranking American on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) is still struggling with a weakened left arm and is undergoing heavy doses of painkillers and Cortisone shots to help him stay on course. He is also battering with a stiffened
neck which is affecting a quick recovery.
Stricker is currently poised at Number Five on the OWGR and is one of the surviving hopes of the American side, who can go all the way to lift the Tour Championship title at East Lake Golf Club this weekend.
Stricker, who received a Cortisone shot between his C6 and C7 vertebrae before he went over to practice, said, “I don't feel better yet. The crazy thing is there's no pain. My neck is a little stiff, that's all. But there's just a weak, heavy feeling in
my left arm.”
Stricker practiced nine holes on the East Lake Golf Club alongside the long-hitting, Bubba Watson. Doctors have raised concern over his deteriorating condition and fear a return of the dreadful injury Stricker encountered in the past. The 44-year-old American
first discovered the problem with his left arm while on a deer hunting expedition in December. He felt a severe jolt in his elbow off the recoil and took extensive work out sessions to improve his condition.
Stricker added, “The doctors are moderately concerned this is back again.”
Stricker had a phenomenal run at the start of the year where he won the Memorial pulling in amazing eagles and an Ace all through the weekend. He returned at eth TPC John Deere, his favourite hunting ground, to post a rare 3-peat by winning the John Deere
Classic for a third consecutive time. Although he has not won a major title in his career, he is considered as one of the best players without a major title under his belt.
Stricker withdrew from the second leg of the FedExCup Playoff Championship, the BMW Championship about two weeks ago, citing a severe neck pain which troubled him in holding the club with his left arm.
He has not posted a top-ten in his last six appearances after the John Deere Classic. He also pulled in three top-ten finishes at the start of the year, when he finished for a joint fourth at Hyundai Tournament of Champions and Shell Houston Open and a joint
ninth at Sony Open in Hawaii. He is currently poised at second position at the FedExCup Money List and is trailing the leader by 41 points. He will be among top-30 players who have qualified to play the final leg of the championship.
