Steve Stricker remains in contention after the third round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans – Golf News
Steve Stricker continued his great run in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans to remain in contention for the top position, prior to entering the final round at TPC Louisiana.
Stricker carded a three-under par 69 in the third round to finish four strokes behind the leader Jason Dufner.
He carded a total of five birdies against two bogeys to tie for the fifth spot on the leaderboard with a 13-under par three-round score.
According to him, he could have done even better if he had managed to make better putts. Overalls, his putting was good throughout the round.
However, he missed a couple of birdie putts that could have earned him a better place while entering the final round on Sunday, April 29, 2012.
“I had some opportunities again today,” he said. “I hit a lot good putts, too, over the edges. Starting to get a little frustrating at times but hung in there and made a couple birdies on 15 and 18, keep hanging around looks like I may be four back by the
end of the day. I got an opportunity to tomorrow”.
Stricker is now hopeful to give a tough time to the players listed above him by maintaining consistency in his performance on the final day too.
“It's going to be tough tomorrow. This is a course where there's some trouble out there and if you're playing around the lead or in the lead, you know, sometimes you're going to play a little more cautious”.
He is now looking to registering his second victory in the 2012 PGA Tour season, as he won the season opener, Hyundai Tournament of Champions, early in the month of January, 2012.
Meanwhile, Jason Dufner surged to the top of the leaderboard after carding a five-under par 67.
He carded a total of six birdies against two bogeys to take a two-stroke lead over Ernie Els. His three-round score was 13-under par.
In the meantime, Els is also aiming his first victory in the last two years, as he won his last event at the Arnold palmer Invitational in 2010. He managed to score a four-under par 68.
