Steve Stricker to play in selected tournaments from 2013
Steve Stricker is one golfer on the PGA Tour who follows his gut feelings. As the new season is about to start, the 45-year-old said that he will be limiting his golf.
Stricker said that he will be playing only a handful of tournaments from now on as he wants to spend more time with his family and concentrate on the foundation he has recently established.
The American golfer has established a foundation to help students who wish to go to college. In a statement, Stricker said, “That’s the plan. I'm going to play a lot less".
On the Tour, Stricker will be focus mainly on the big tournaments. Last year he won the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, but this time around he is unlikely to participate in the tournament to defend his title.
The 2013 season will start off at the first week of January but the American will not playing on the tour until February for the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Marana, Arizona.
Keeping a strict schedule, Stricker will be playing on selected tournaments. In the WGC-Cadillac Championship on March, the Masters in April
Stricker said, "I'm not quitting, I want to spend more time here. I still enjoy playing, but I don't enjoy the travel".
Stricker has collaborated with American Family Insurance and established the foundation.
He said that he wants to help out high school kids and college students to facilitate them. "We're still tossing around ideas," Stricker stated. "We want to target bigger audiences".
Stricker has had a long career on the Professional Golf Association Tour. He has participated in 416 events and has earned more than $35 million.
The PGA Tour has granted him the permission for his status and will be able to play on the Tour.
He said that his sponsors are highly supportive of the cause and have not troubled him with any restrictions.
While talking about his family, Stricker said: "Everybody's excited, I will sure be rested and ready to play when I do play, I'm excited about that".
As there will be top-ranked golfers participating in the most lucrative tournaments of the Tour, Stricker will have to come up with a high-level golf to stay in contention for future events.
