Steve Waugh, the former captain of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, has once again questioned the place of wicketkeeper batsman Brad Haddin in the side, after the latter was overlooked for the ongoing ODI tri-series.
Brad Haddin, the 34-year-old glove-man hailing from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Wade-c1933.
The Argus Review that was conducted last year required the selectors and players to be up front while communicating with each other. Waugh, who is also member of the Argus review panel, feels the selectors are not communicating clearly
with Haddin.
"I was surprised when they said [Haddin] was rested. He basically said he was dropped," said Waugh speaking to media reporters on Tuesday.
The 46-year-old former middle order batsman doubts that Haddin is being given a rest for the ODI tournament.
"There's mixed messages there. If he's rested, why doesn't he come back in and be the captain? He's the vice-captain of the Test side, so there was the opportunity for maybe Brad to captain the one-day team,” said Waugh on Tuesday.
“But obviously, he's having an enforced rest. I'm not sure what it is but it's a bit confusing and it would be good for someone to clear it up," the former Aussie skipper urged.
Earlier, Haddin had told Sky Sports Radio that he had been forced to sit out, insisting that he was completely fit and in form to play limited overs cricket.
Brad Haddin made his ODI debut on January 30, 2001 and has played 93 ODIs, compiling 2511 runs at an average of 31.38, which includes 2 centuries and 15 half centuries.
His performance in Test cricket is more impressive where he averages 35.82 with a tally of 2257 runs in 43 Tests. He has 164 dismissals to his name which includes 160 catches behind the stumps and four stumpings.
The glove-man, however looked completely out of sorts with the bat in the recently concluded Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, where he could amass only 86 runs in five innings at a meagre average of 28.66.
