Steve Waugh satisfied with Australia’s progress – Cricket News Update
Former Australian captain and middle-order batsman, Steve Waugh, is happy with Australia’s progress in international cricket since the last 12 months, but thinks that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 and company have a long way to go before they can regain the top team
status.

The Kangaroos remained the undisputed champions in international cricket for almost 15 years and played extra-ordinarily in all parts of the world against every opposition.

Aussies won three World Cups on the trot in 1999, 2003 and 2007 and most cricket analysts believe that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 led the best team in the history of the game.

However, the situation changed for Australia after the retirement of some of the greats of the game like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918. The Aussies dropped down on the rankings and also failed to defend their world title
for the third time in a row in 2011.
The situation has started to improve once again for the Baggy Greens as they whitewashed India at home, which was a massive win as the Men in Blue were the number one ranked Test team of the world last year.
Waugh did not expect http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to do so well against India and the 4-0 victory margin even surprised the former captain.

"They have done probably better than most expected. Before the series you would say that (whitewash) would be beyond expectations but India didn't really turn up. It was a fantastic achievement to beat what was the No.1 Test team 12 months previously,”
he said.
However, the former cricketer feels that the real test of the Australian team is going to be in the next season when Clarke’s men will take on South Africa, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in different conditions.

Waugh expressed, "(But) their real challenge lies ahead. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in Australia is going to be very hard then India away and the Ashes - that's three really tough campaigns. We will probably have a better gauge at where they are at in 12 months'
time but right now they have done everything asked of them."
