Steven Asmussen ready to invade the Springboard Mile Stakes field with his trio
The $300,000 Springboard Mile Stakes for 2-year-old colts will mark the end of the 2011 Remington Park meet on 10 December, 2011, and the meet will end with a mouthwatering clash of 12 two-year-olds going over a distance of one mile on Remington Park’s dirt
course.
Trainer Steven Asmussen is in for a big chance at Remington Park comes 10 December, because the veteran conditioner has sent three of his finest 2-year-olds to run the mile long race.
The Hardspun colt, Seeker, will take the field for Asmussen after exiting a fourth place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint on 4 November, 2011, at about six furlongs to winner Secret Circle who wrapped up the race in 1 minute and 10.52 seconds.
Prior to the Breeders’ Cup, Seeker ran a solid race in the Grade 2 Nashua Stakes where he finished third to winner Vexor over a distance of six furlongs at Belmont Park on 2 October, 2011, while Vexor topped the distance in 1 minute and 10.71 seconds defeating
Trinniberg to finish second.
The Kentucky bred juvenile colt is out of mare Classic Olympio by Olympio, Seeker in preparation for the Springboard Mile fired a five furlong bullet in 1 minute and 1 second on 28 November, and the run was followed by another impressive work session where
he went half a mile in 49 2/5 seconds on 5 December.
Basalt is another colt that will be representing Steven Asmussen in the $300,000 event. The juvenile colt broke his maiden in at second asking that too at Remington Park on 18 November, 2011.
Steven Asmussen will have to look out for Wilson Brown trained 2-year-old colt, Ted’s Folly, a winner of five consecutive races at Remington Park.
The son of Wild Tale, Ted’s Folly, went on to bag the Oklahoma Classics Juvenile and then immediately landed the Oklahoma Stallion Stakes last month.
Ted’s Folly hasn’t gone the long field yet, but in these two races he ran six furlongs, the longest he has ever run.
Overall, Ted’s Folly has gone on to win five of his seven starts as he turned in a five furlong work of his own ahead of the race in 1 minute and 1 1/5 seconds.
