Steven Cummings draws differences between Team Sky and Team BMC
Steve Cummings successfully concluded his 2012 campaign with a victory at the final stage of the Tour of Beijing 2012.
He completed the race in a cumulative time of 4 hours, 5 minutes and 8 seconds restricting Ryder Hesjedal of Team Garmin-Sharp for the second position.
Edvald Boasson Hagen of Team Sky Procycling, Daniele Bennati of Team RadioShack-Nissan and Tim Wellens of Team Lotto Belisol achieved the third, fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
The British cyclist part ways with Team Sky after 2011season and accepted an offer from Team BMC for the 2012 season.
While Team Sky is facing its internal setbacks related to Mark Cavendish, Cummings is silently running his own campaign with the American squad.
“I think there’s a difference, BMC is less like a business and more like a family. If you go through a difficult moment, they quite understand and they’re very supportive. It’s not just like cutthroat like Sky maybe,” Cummings told Cyclingnews.
His performance might not be as impressive comparing the past few seasons, but that is mainly because of the fact that the Brit fractured his pelvis at the Volta ao Algarve 2012 in the early part of the 2012 season.
However, the cyclist managed to mark a successful return to professional cycling at the Tour de France 2012.
He could not really claim any victories during the French Grand Tour but nevertheless, his support to help his team leader throughout the three-week race was commendable.
Steve succeeded during the stage 13 of the Vuelta a Espana 2012 after his heroic performance during the 172.8 kilometre event.
“It was a big breakaway initially, so it was difficult for them to chase behind,” said Cummings after crossing the finish-line.
“When you have a climb like that in the final, you only have so many people left to pull”.
“After the descent, I was with Ryder and he was strong, and we did a good job together to hold them off”.
The 31-year-old was relieved to end his 2012 season on a winning note and thanked his teammates for their support during the final stage of the Tour of Beijing 2012.
