Steven Davis a doubtful for Rangers' Euro clash
Rangers midfielder Steven Davis has been rated as a doubtful for the Scottish Premier League champions’ clash against Bursaspor in the UEFA Champions League group stage on Wednesday.
The player suffered from an injury in the club’s 3-2 SPL victory away at Aberdeen on Sunday. The 25-year-old was taken off the pitch approximately 15 minutes before full-time.
Rangers boss Walter Smith told the BBC on Monday that the Northern Ireland international might not be able to line up for the Ibrox clash with the Turkish champions.
"He's got a slight hamstring injury and we'll just have to wait. With that type of injury, you would say he must be very doubtful for Wednesday's game."
Davis may be joined on the sidelines by Steven Whittaker, who was taken off after clashing heads with teammate David Weir.
Although the victory over the Dons came at a price, Smith was keen to praise his men for the spirited performance that saw them come back from two goals down at Pittodrie.
"I felt there was a wee bit of slackness defensively in the first half of the game. From our own point of view, we had been dominating the game territorially and we struggled to get the breakthrough there and had a couple of bits of slackness that allowed
Aberdeen to go two up. You always think it is a long way back after that but, credit to our boys, they kept going and it was great to get a win under those circumstances."
Kenny Miller canceled out Aberdeen’s two-goal advantage with a brace before Nikica Jelavic struck the winner for the visitors.
