Steven Defour's agent rules out Manchester United move
The agent of Standard Liege player Steven Defour has ruled out a move for his client to Premier League giants Manchester United.
The 22-year-old midfield player is being courted by a number of English clubs, but United is no longer leading the pack as was first reported within the English media.
"An imminent agreement with Manchester United?
I can confirm that there are informal contacts with Italian, English, French, German and Spanish clubs, but nothing that suggests an imminent closure with them [United]," said Paul Stefani.
The news suggests that Sir Alex Ferguson is happy with the core midfield players he already has at the club. However, there are risks concerning one or two central United
players.
Manchester United is happy
Ferguson has already said that he does not plan to make any signings this January. This is because he has a number of players out injured who he expects to have back in
the near future.
This suggests the Scot has faith in the central players at the club. The likes of Paul, Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick are all competing for starting
places in the midfield positions. The squad is large despite mounting injuries.
The problem the club faces is firstly missing out on one of the best young talents in Europe at the moment. There is also the concern over how long ageing players such
as Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs can carry on playing before young blood is needed.
"Still there's not anything concrete so I cannot make names, I confirm that the player is followed by some big clubs.
A departure in January? It's too early to tell about it, this depends on many things," added Stefani.
Betting advice
The success of Manchester United this season does not hinge on signing this player. It's clear he is a talent but it doesn't seem that he'll add anything to the United
team that the current players under contract at the club can offer. Don't change any betting patterns with the Old Trafford club.
