Steven Finn achieved career best haul in his debut Ashes Test
Steven Finn marked his debut Ashes Test by taking his career best 6 for 125. Apart from being 21 and having eight months of international experience, he has marked his presence in the bowling squad of England as the most successful against
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 at Brisbane.
On his achievement, he emulated Bill Voce and John Snow, who were the only English players that could achieve such a haul at the Gabba.
Finn idolises Glenn McGrath, who is a perfect role model for seam bowling in all conditions. Finn ended up with an economy rate of 3.71, which indicates that he was the most expensive bowler for England and he was well aware of this fact.
At times when Michael Hussy and Brad Haddin were batting brilliantly, to put on a stand of 307, he was helpless to control the run flow. At last he was able to get Hussey out when he made him pull straight to the fielder at square leg.
He restricted the tail-enders very effectively, which is a good omen for future challenges for him as England bowlers were able to take the last five wickets for a mere 31 runs. Finn was truly satisfied by his show on the 3rd
day at the Gabba as he considered himself the least consistent bowler.
He praised his seniors as at times Jimmy Andersion, Stuart Broad and Graem Swann bowled fantastically well and according to him taking wickets is a collective effort as wickets come whenever they worked as a unit. About his personal performance
he said that there are many areas on which he needs to concentrate and improve as he wants to give less runs and get more wickets.
England could have done a lot better on day three at the Gabba had Anderson been rewarded for a fine new ball spell, which went in favour of the Kangaroos, in which Hussey was able to survive two lbw appeals when he was on 82 and 85, the
first was reversed by the Umpire Decision Review System and the second was accepted as plain not out as England had already unsuccessfully used their 2 options of UDRS on day two.
This was a frustrating thing as before that session the first two sessions had gone wicket less and sometimes these situations can be discouraging when you go hard on getting wickets and decisions go against you. This emotional breakdown
disrupts your state of mind and distracts you from working on the prescribed game plan.
Another distraction for English players for last three days is the illness of their coach Andy Flower, who was admitted in a hospital to recover from an operation, which was done to remove the cancerous melanoma from under his right eye.
Finn considered it usual for the squad as Richard Halshall, the fielding coach has taken temporary charge, as he said that although they are concerned about Andy’s health and pray for his fast recovery, it has taken nothing away from team
spirit.
He praised the back-room staff which is very capable of taking care of the squad and the team works as a unit and this togetherness helps them perform well in such situations.
