Steven Gerrard: ‘I’d boo England too’
England captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that his side deserve to be booed at tomorrow night’s friendly against Hungary at Wembley.
The Three Lions were widely derided by both their own fans and the nation’s media following their desperately poor World Cup campaign in South Africa this summer, and now as they prepare for their first match since the 4-1 defeat to Germany in Bloemfontein six weeks ago, Gerrard fully expects to receive a fair amount of abuse from the fans.
Asked if he would boo England were he a fan in the stands tomorrow night, the Liverpool skipper admitted: “I probably would, yeah.
“We have to take it on the chin. We deserve it. We let them down in the summer.
“There are no excuses at all. The simple message is that we have to show how sorry we are by our performances on the pitch.
“It’s simple sitting here saying words, the difficult thing is putting it into action on the pitch and showing how sorry we are by our performances going forward.”
