Steven Gerrard: Liverpool still has time to sort things out
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has issued a rallying call to everyone at the club, insisting that they can come back from their poor start to the season, as there are still plenty of games to play before the end of the campaign.
The Reds have picked up only five points from their five English Premier League games to date, leaving them in 16th place on the table — ten points behind leaders Chelsea —ahead of Saturday’s match against Sunderland. Meanwhile, they were dumped out of the
Carling Cup earlier this week after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of Northampton Town.
Despite the poor results so far, Gerrard has insisted that these are still early days and that there is no reason to worry.
He told the Daily Mirror that, “There's a bit of doom and gloom that goes with a few negative results. We've had them against Manchester United and going out against Northampton. But we've only had one seventh of the season, so it's crazy to panic.
The important thing is to stay together. Two or three good, positive results will change the mood, lifts the cloud and then everyone will be looking forward again.”
The England international added that it was too early to determine how successful the club’s new manager, Roy Hodgson, had been since taking over in the summer.
He said that, “I don't think you can judge your position in the league until you've played 10 or 12 games. Yeah, we have five points and have already lost a couple of games, but if we string three wins together in this league, you're back in there for the
European places. Let's just take a deep breath and assess the situation 10 or 12 games in."
