Steven Gerrard: Liverpool’s aim is to qualify for Champions League – EPL news
Inspirational Liverpool skipper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196, has revealed that the Reds’ main aim for the upcoming 2011/12 season is to earn qualification for the elite European club competition, UEFA Champions League.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 made a dreadful start to the Premier League campaign last season under then newly-appointed manager Roy Hodgson, as he marked the worst start at Anfield in 58 years. However, club legend Kenny Dalglish appointment in the second half of the season
saved the Reds’ campaign to some extent; Liverpool finished a respectable sixth in the league standings.
By looking at Liverpool’s impressive form in the second half of the recently concluded 2010/11 season, the Reds are being tipped to challenge for the Barclays Premier League, but Steven Gerrard has claimed that his team’s sole target is to get back in the
top four of the Barclays Premier League.
Stevie G said, “Getting in the Champions League will be the main aim. Everyone wants to be involved in it, we've had some fantastic nights at Anfield over the years in the competition and we all want to see those nights return.”
Gerrard, who missed the last two months of the season due to a groin injury, has hailed his team’s overall performance in the second half of the campaign and has urged his teammates to continue their impressive form in order to mount a stronger challenge
in the upcoming season.
“We just need to continue what we've been doing during the last six months,” the 31-year-old midfielder added.
Gerrard believes Liverpool’s current squad has the quality to compete against the best teams in Europe but he wants his team to show consistency in order to challenge for titles next season.
He asserted, “We are good enough to beat anyone on our day; we just need to find the consistency to challenge for honours.”
Liverpool, who splashed millions to bring Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, have recently signed young English midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102, who is considered as the natural and perfect replacement to Steven Gerrard. Kenny Dalglish is expected to bring more
players and Gerrard agrees with the manager’s decision.
“Hopefully we'll add some more players to strengthen the squad and then we need to compete.” He concluded.
Liverpool are being heavily linked with Arsenal’s want-away left-back, Gael Clichy, and reports suggest that the Reds have already made an offer for the Frenchman. Moreover, the Anfield club are reportedly also chasing Aston Villa winger, Stuart Downing,
and Lille OSC’s want-away striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gervinho-c14755.
