In a touching tribute to a former Liverpool player, Reds’ skipper Steven Gerrard explained why he would not be the same player without Dietmar Hamann’s influence.

Able to play anywhere in the middle of the field, including just ahead of the defenders or just behind the striker, Gerrard is a talent that no team would mind having in their squad.
However, in a recent interview, at the launch of his former teammate, Didi Hamann’s new book, Gerrard had nothing but praise for the German midfielder.
Explaining how Hamann helped Gerrard, the midfielder said, “He was my safety net. The reason people speak about me and how I played with Didi (Hamann) was because he was there.”
He continued, “He allowed me to go forward, score and set up goals, and he did all my defensive work and tackling for me.”
Gerrard also commented on how Liverpool had ‘Didi’ during the best years of the German midfielder’s career, “At the time we had him, he was in his prime and he was up there with the best holding midfielders in the world.”
Hamann is still considered a legend at Anfield after it was revealed that he played in the 2005 Champions League final against AC Milan with a broken foot, an injury he had not fully recovered from.
Gerrard was a number of Liverpool players, both past and present, who joined Hamann in the German’s launch party for his new book, which is titled, “The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Didi-c11036 Man: My Love affair with Liverpool’.
The Liverpool captain also gave his manager, Kenny Dalglish a boost as he is now available to play against fellow contenders for a Champions League spot, Tottenham Hotspur, on Monday.

In the mean time though, Gerrard will probably be going through Didi’s book and reflecting on old times, or not.
