Liverpool’s veteran midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 has come out and said that he will be looking forward to playing for the Reds at the Wembley stadium if they successfully reach the Carling Cup final after their semi-final encounter
against Manchester City tonight.
The experienced creative midfielder was the influential force behind Liverpool’s last silverware win way back in 2006 when they lifted the F.A Cup at the Millennium stadium under Rafael Benitez’s guidance as they bested West Ham
United in the pen-ultimate match of the tournament. It took a special strike for Steven Gerrard to lead Liverpool to a historic cup win but it has been a long time since the Englishman had his hands on silverware for his childhood club.
Nonetheless, Liverpool have a brilliant chance to make it to their first cup final in over four years if they get past Manchester City at the Etihad stadium. Liverpool took a slender one goal advantage to the second leg and they
will need to be at their best if they want to deny City the chance to make it to Wembley.
Gerrard said, “It would mean nothing to lead Liverpool out at Wembley, but to lift the Cup there would mean an awful lot – a dream come true. If I lead the club out at Wembley and we lose then I’ll remember it in a bad way. To
get to Wembley is the target – to win it is the dream.”
He added, “The big objective for this club is the top four, so if you look at it that way the Bolton game was bigger than tonight against City. But, as a player, I don’t want to be saying I finished in the top four. I want to say
I won the Carling Cup four or five times.”
Kenny Dalglish will hope that his captain can come up with a match winning performance against Manchester City as Liverpool have missed his charisma over the past two years in which Gerrard has been more often than not on the sidelines
due to fitness issues.
