Steven Gerrard to stay at Anfield
Liverpool captain and talismanic midfielder, Steven Gerrard has finally committed himself to the club. He came to this agreement after admitting that he was apparently very impressed with the new manager, Roy Hodgson and with the plans and changes that he had in mind for the clubs future.
He was impressed by Hodgson’s signing of Joe Cole. What this leads us to believe is the fact that it doesn’t really take much to impress Steven Gerrard. It is ridiculous to think that the signing of a Chelsea player that barely even played last season and hardly participated in England’s World Cup campaign was all that it took to convince Gerrard that the future was bright for the club and that he should probably be staying.
In an exclusive interview with the Liverpool Echo Gerrard said, “It is a great signing for us. I know Joe well through the England set-up and have seen first-hand just how good a player he is.
“I’ve told him what a great club this is and I’m sure Joe’s the sort of exciting talent our fans will love to see.”
When asked why he took so long to make a decision about his own future the player said, “I made it clear that I simply needed to concentrate on the World Cup and then have a decent holiday with my family.
“I wanted the chance to meet Roy Hodgson privately and having done so, I’m very impressed with his plans for the future.”
So magically right after Real Madrid dropped any and all interest in signing the player, due to the fact that he was too old and overpriced, Gerrard decided that the right move for him would be to stay at Anfield and help them in their downward spiral for another season running.
The appointment of Hodgson and the arrival of Cole will now give Gerrard another reason to show the Liverpool fans his lack of ambition for another season running. It is a miracle that the player himself hasn’t gotten tired of getting his and the clubs fans hopes up for another season running. It is fairly obvious that under no circumstance will Liverpool be the Champions of England or the winners of anything as a matter of fact.
If Gerrard was to have used that peanut sized brain of his, he would have made the smart decision to tried and pursue a move to a team like Real Madrid that had shown some signs of interest in the player. It was an opportunity that will probably never come the players way again. He will never get the chance to play for a bigger team in a better city in the future. It appears that Gerrard does not wish to take any risks and would rather play it safe and stay at Anfield and the Merseyside for the rest of his career that is going nowhere any time soon.
Some Liverpool fans might cheer and say that the captain is the strongest link in the squad but those players are just lying to themselves day in and day out and are living in a world of delusion that has no escape.
