Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard wants interim manager Kenny Dalglish to take over on a permanent basis. The former player and manager has been handed the job on temporary basis following the sacking of Roy Hodgson and he is to
be in charge till the end of the season.
Gerrard said that he really wants Kenny to stay in the job, and he would do all he can to make sure it happens. He admitted that when he got the call from Kenny saying that he would be taking the job, he was both bolstered and
relieved.
Currently the Liverpool board is in search for a man to replace Dalglish at Anfield after his interim period is over. Damien Comolli is the man put in charge of leading that search and he is believed to have already pinpointed
some possible candidates.
Gerrard may not be the only one who wants Dalglish to stay in the job, but at the end of the day it comes down to the results that he can muster with the club under him. Till now he has managed them in 3 games, 2 of which ended
in defeats and 1 a hard-fought draw. Stevie G, though, remains insistent that he would love to have Kenny in the job on a long-term basis.
Gerrard said: "I'd love nothing better when the end of the season comes than for us to be on the back of a good run of results that ensures he gets the job full-time. That's my short-term plan, to give everything I've got and all
my energy to try to make that happen."
Kenny Dalglish was not considered when Roy Hodgson was handed the job before the season began. When Rafael Benitez was let go at the end of last season, there was a feeling among many http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 fans that Kenny Dalglish may be the
one to take on the job. Even after Hodgson was employed, there were regular chants of King Kenny’s name at the home games for Liverpool whenever Liverpool faltered.
Liverpool are currently now just 4 points away from the dreaded relegation zone, and did spend some time down there in the initial part of the season.
The Liverpool captain went on to say that he has a lot of admiration for Dalglish and he could notice the lift in the camp after he took over. He added that if Kenny is given proper time and resources he may be able to turn around
the fortunes of Liverpool.
Steven Gerrard is currently serving a 3-match ban following the red card he received in the FA Cup defeat against Manchester United. The midfielder believes that a person like Kenny who has done it at the highest level for Liverpool
would be the best man to lead them out of the current turmoil. Gerrard added that there was no doubt in the commitment of former manager Roy Hodgson, but maybe his approach and understanding of the club’s values was not the same. And compared to that, Kenny
is someone who has won European championships for the club and there is no reason why he cannot instil enough confidence within the team to lift them out of the current crisis.
Steven Gerrard, who captained http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rio-Ferdinand-c31173, ended by saying that as a player who has grown up loving the club, he has nothing but the interest of Liverpool at heart, and he has no
doubts that Kenny Dalglish feels the same way so he should be given the job on a full-time basis.
