Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard netted three times to guide his team to a comfortable 3-0 victory against Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfied.
The veteran Gerrard, who has been a source of inspiration for Liverpool for many years, proved himself once again last night, as he helped pull off an important win for the team, while bringing an end to their dismal run of form.
In the process he became the first player in the Merseyside derby history to score a hat-trick since Ian Rush’s quadruple in 1982 and only the 5th Liverpool player to achieve the feat at Anfield.
His impressive display also helped the team avoid a fifth consecutive defeat in the league and gave them an outside chance of pressing for the Champions League berth. At the same time, the win for Liverpool also brought an end to Everton’s nine match unbeaten streak in the league.
“I don’t think anyone can doubt Steven’s quality,” acknowledged Dalglish after the game. “He has been a fantastic player for this club for his whole career and he always will be. There is no way I can extol his virtues and do him justice. The three goals he scored tonight were fantastic.”
While Dalglish was having the time of his life, Everton boss http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Moyes, who recently celebrated his 10th year in charge of the club, did not have much to celebrate as he saw his side go down against the spirited and rejuvenated Liverpool side.
The Reds were right on the money from the start and a good interplay between Luis Suarez and Jose Enrique in the opening stages of the game set up an opportunity for Gerrard but he was kept at bay by the Everton keeper Tim Howard.

Carroll then had the opportunity to seal the win but his effort went over the bar. Suarez also missed an opportunity with the outside of his right foot effort later on in the game.
An injury time goal from Gerrard after an impressive play and unselfish pass from Suarez made the script look even more ominous in the host’s favor and summed up a miserable day for Everton and a historic one for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 and Liverpool.
The victory for the team has kept them in the 7th spot after 28 games and only 2 points adrift of Newcastle and keeps them in the hunt for a top four finish.
